Not the name of a dark and lurid x-rated  version of Strawberry Shortcake involving her pet but half as dirty. I dunno, these products always bring to mind waste management. It’s like they had all these extra little bits lying around after producing a regular batch of KKs and someone suggested they scoop all the scraps up off the floor, re-package them and sell them as bite sized chunks to kids. So appetizing.

Kit Kat flavors know no bounds. It seems as if they don’t follow their own advice about taking a break though, sheesh, it’s difficult to keep up.

Kit Kat goes after that elusive adult market for chocolates… yeah right. Kit Kat branding for the “au chalet”.

Salt + something sweet is sure making an insurgence recently. Somebody’s cousin’s uncle in the food industry probably has a surplus he is trying to dump and is calling in some favors.

Or as the Japanese would say beeta arumondo Kitto Katto. 18 flavors and counting, who comes up with these?

Cola and Lemon Squash Kit Kat. Pack comes with one of each inside. It also comes with an explanation  on the pack that the chocolate has the cola/lemon squash flavor and the wafer inside has fizzy powder in it to give the soda sensation.

Blueberry Kit Kat. Quite a tame flavor by Kit Kat standards. Regular chocolate on the outside but a very blueberry flavor inside.

Aloe or yoghurt flavor (even the two together) is no stranger to Japan.

It’s not terribly bad either; just overly sweet, thanks to the white
chocolate.

This special edition from Kyushu (big island in the south), is flavored with Yuzu Pepper. Yuzu is a citrus fruit that you find in this yuzu pepper and also in tea and some other things.

I love all these regional Kit Kats that are coming in. This one is Nagoya, and another Miso flavor from the region, previously we had Red Miso Sour. Nagoya is famous for Miso (especially Miso Katsu), so I guess Kit Kat decided to make use of the local favourite.

I haven’t tried this one yet, if anyone has, please post something in the comments about what it tastes like.

Yep, it does sound like “Cow Piss” Kit Kat, but in this collaborative age, there’s nobody that does it better than Kit Kat. Calpis is a yogurty-flavoured white drink that almost looks like some of the sports drinks except that it\’s all sugar.

Surprisingly though, the Calpis tinge of yogurt flavor is a refreshing taste for those who like a bit of zing in their Kit Kat. Only found in the bags of mini bars at the convenience stores rather than the usual boxes, but who knows this one could be a keeper flavour. Worth a try.

Probably one of the nicest tasting Kit Kat flavors I have tried. The blueberry cheesecake comes through very well and matches nicely with the chocolate base. This is a special release for the Koushin region, which comprises all the central highlands of Honshu, Japan.

This is a very interesting one. In Japan there is a chili pepper that you can put on certain foods called shichimi, which translates as “7 flavors”, based on its 7 ingredients. This particular Kit Kat is called Ichimi, which is just one flavor, and by the packaging image, this looks like specifically chili flavor.

The taste has a little of a chili bite to it, but is pretty mild. 10 points for originality.

This is one of the regional special editions for Kit Kat, Shinshu Ringo. Shinshu is the old name of the mountainous Nagano prefecture in central Honshu, Japan. Ringo, is just Japanese for Apple.

The taste of this one is very weak though, I was hoping for a stronger apple flavor.

This one isn’t so much a strange flavor as much as it is a specific flavor. That is something that you find extremely well executed in Japan. With this one we could have had just a coffee flavored Kit Kat, but they go and be all specific about it and roll out a Milk Coffee flavor.

And yes, it does taste more like milk and coffee than just coffee.

This is probably the strangest choice for a Kit Kat flavor that I have seen yet. Shouyu (or Soy Sauce) in a chocolate bar. It is a special limited edition Tokyo edition and can only be found at the airport as far as I know as a special gift edition.

I am still trying to pick the smell of this one. It smells a little like something with Shouyu on it, rather than shouyu itself, but I just can’t put my finger on what that is. It also has a not of those coffee creme sweets, but in the end sits somewhere between the two perhaps.

The taste (maybe thankfully) doesn’t resemble shouyu at all. Much more just a plain cream sweet.

Great gift to look out for if you are on your way out of Tokyo.

I am figuring this one is a special edition for Christmas. I found it on the shelf today a few weeks out. The sparkling, I assume refers to the slightly fizzy taste (similar to the Ginger Ale or Ume Soda) over the top of the sickly sweet strawberry taste. Special red edition right before Christmas, no brainer. Sparkling Strawberry, now that’s new.

This is actually based on a popular drink from Ito-en called 充実野菜 (Replenishing Vegetables), which is a blended vegetable juice. This KitKat tastes exactly the same as the drink, which is an offputting taste if you are wanting chocolate, but actually not so bad if you want to taste a sugary vegetable bar.

Have you ever thought that you needed to get the taste of a sports drink, but didn’t want to drink anything and wanted it a little bit sweeter?… if so, this is the chocolate bar for you. The sports drink flavour really tastes like that salty sports drink you have at the gym and I am really not sure how anybody could come up with the idea to put it into a KitKat. An added bonus with this one is the support for Asian Soccer (Football for European readers). I don’t know what the JFA Dream Asia Project is, but they obviously need some chocolate sports drink KitKats.

This combines the wonderfully chocolate friendly tastes of ume (Japanese plum) and soda (please note the sarcasm). The taste kind of hits you in a couple of waves, first the soft soda tastes and then the hit of ume which is a strong salty, sweet taste. I actually quite liked this one.
